EMULATING SUPER NES
Now, you don't need a Super NES to play Super NES!
NINTENDO SWITCH
The only commercial option for emulating the Super NES is Nintendo Switch Online.
A descendent of the Wii Virtual Console (2006-2019), NSO has a smattering of popular Super NES games
developed by either Nintendo or one of their first- or second-party developers. What gets released on the
service is completely at the discretion of Nintendo, who have also been known to discontinue games in
order to create artificial scarcity. As of the time of this writing (October 27 2022), there are 72 SNES games
available on the NSO service. These represent only the most popular games for the platform, which the
company believes are more likely to sell than others. Some of the diamonds in the rough; such as Blackthorne,
Aero the AcroBat, and SimCity; are completely absent, likely due to licensing difficulties. Some of the
popular ones; such as Super Mario RPG and Earthworm Jim; have been neglected entirely.
PERSONAL COMPUTERS
Outside of the one commercial SNES emulator lies the wide world of game console emulation on PC.
There's not a game console that's been released that can't be emulated on a personal computer... well,
except maybe the Microsoft Xbox. Weird, I know.
The most popular Super NES emulator for Windows, Mac, and Linux is Snes9x. It's easy to set up, requires
very little memory and CPU resources, and is compatible with all the most common SNES ROM filetypes.
You can use the keyboard and most kinds of controllers, from the Gravis PC Gamepad all the way up to
the Xbox One controller.
IS EMULATION LEGAL?

TL;DR, yes.
GAME FILES
The No-Intro collection features game ROMs from every console ever made that used cartridges to deliver
games to their users. Everything from Fairchild Channel F through to Nintendo 3DS, including the
Super NES. As you prepare to download SNES ROMs, though; just remember Vault v. Quaid (1988), and
avoid downloading ROMs of games you didn't own that Nintendo is currently offering on NSO.
